If you take the time to browse the links I gave before, you'll also see that the database option was not such a good idea (posts by Thedigitaldog).Lightroom 5.3 is now available as a final release on and through the update mechanism in Lightroom 5. Adobe waited until recently before 'deprecating' the database option. That was because most users had stopped already using the database and accepted the xmp sidecar files. The funny thing for me was when I first asked a question about the Camera Raw Database in this forum ten years ago, I could not get an answer. That embbeds the raw and edits in a new container with the DNG extension it's the universal raw file format. In short, either you do like nearly everybody else and don't fight the xmp sidecars, or you use the DNG route described in the links. That is explained in detail in the links I posted before. That means an extremely short text file with the xmp extension which is associated to the raw original. So you have to work in a non destructive, parametric editing way and to store the editing 'recipe' somewhere. That's simply due to the fact that no converter software editor is allowed to alter / add information in the original raw file. xmp files appearing and has to delete each one as I have to now?īy a matter of fact, that is nothing specific to Macs nor Nikon NEFs. So, everyone who edits NEFs in camera raw - or even jpegs in PS - gets these.
